This High Protein Herb Dip is a great way to introduce new herbs and flavors to your kids. It’s thick and creamy, while also adding a fresh and light flavor to any meal or snack. So gather all the herbs from your garden (or grocery store) and prep a batch for the week!
The magic of this dipping sauce comes in its variability. You can pretty much combine any herbs you have on hand! Especially if your child is particularly interested in a certain herb, feel free to throw it in here. Throwing in as many herbs as possible is a great way to explain to your child the benefits they all can bring.
Health Benefits of Herbs
Cilantro: this leafy and fragrant herb is high in antioxidants, which is good for your blood sugar and gut health. As a fun fact to share with your kid – 14% of the population has a smell receptor gene that makes cilantro smell like soap.
Basil: although usually in your favrotie pizza or pasta, basil can add vitamin A, vitamin C, and iron to any foods! Basil is one of the more neutral-tasting herbs which makes it a great herb to expand your child’s taste buds.
Green Onion: this long, skinny green onion is packed with flavor – and vitamins. It has 200% more vitamin K than a regular onion, which makes for healthy bones!
Get Your Kids Involved
As always, I like to make sure my recipes are kid friendly. So here are the ways your kid can get involved in this recipe:
- Picking herbs from the garden OR gathering the leaves/stems from the store-bought herbs
- Cutting the herbs (kid-safe knife here)
- Measuring the spices
- Squeezing the lemon
- Pressing the button on the blender
If herbs are too flavorful for your kids, try any of my other dips here!
